Travelling two hours along State Highway 1 north of Auckland, you come across the city of Whangarei. Nestled in the heart of Northland, Whangarei has easy access to two coastlines, forests and farmland. Leaving home and travelling further abroad is a right of passage for the younger generations of Northland. But more often than not they find their way home after their travels.
Annemieke Luiten of Pīwakawaka Tours was born and bred in Whangarei. After high school she left to see the world but has returned with a greater appreciation for her own backyard.
Pīwakawaka Tours was born out of a desire to show the world exactly why we love it here in Whangarei. When you come on one of our tours you will be shown some of the secrets and special places of Whangarei by our local tour guides. You will also get a chance to sample some delicious artisan food and drink products and meet the amazing suppliers who ply their wares here in Northland. Each week on this blog we will be showcasing Pīwakawaka adventures, events happening in Whangarei and introducing you to some great local businesses and community members. At our core we love Whangarei and encourage visitors to appreciate and experience the wonders of our region.
